New Electrical Insulating Matting

We will be launching some new high quality electrical switchboard matting to our range that conforms to BS EN 61111:2009 Live Working, Electrical Insulation Matting.  COBA Europe already supplies a range of rubber switchboard matting and the introduction of COBAswitch BS EN:61111 gives an extended choice to our customers requiring this sort of  safety electrical insulating matting product.

So what exactly is BS EN 61111:2009?  It all initially started with the International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) and the European Committee for Electro-technical Standardisation (CENELEC).  IEC created the standard BS EN 61111, which was then subsequently updated in 2009 and became BS EN 61111:2009.  The standard has five different classes – 0 to 4. Matting that is classified 1, 2, 3 or 4 has to undergo annual testing whereas the 0 classification requires an inspection each year.

COBAswitch BS EN:61111 is electrical insulating matting for use in front of switchboards (commonly known as switchboard matting) and high voltage equipment.  It helps to protect operatives from electrical shocks.  There are two versions available; one is 3mm thick and is accredited BS EN 61111:2009 Class 2 and tested to 20KV for 30KV working. The other is 4.5mm thick and is classified as 4, tested to 40KV for 50KV working.  Both feature colour coded tape on the reverse to depict their classification.

Aside from the enhanced safety the electrical insulating matting provides to operatives, other benefits of COBASwitch include slip-resistance (thanks to the ribbed ‘grip-surface’), underfoot comfort and resistance to oil, acid and low temperature.  ‘Now that’s more than just matting!’

COBAswitch BS EN: 61111 will soon be available in 1m x per linear metre and 1m x 10m lengths.
