Selecting adhesives – Leave it to the experts

fball-rag-guide

F. Ball have a proud heritage in all things sticky. For over 100 years they have been purveyors of adhesives and subfloor preparation products to the contract flooring industry. Their stamp is so widely recognised in the industry and ‘Ball’ is the byword for adhesives.

The RAG is their annual published guide to which adhesive products to choose for any commercial flooring product. It’s the go-to handbook for any flooring professional worth their salt. It lists virtually every flooring product on the market in the UK, and recommends specific glue products for different situations such as:

  • Permanent
  • Release
  • Heavy-Duty / Wet-Areas

F. Ball and Co. Ltd physically test every flooring sample submitted to them, in order to determine which products from their huge rage of solutions will perfectly match the flooring product. COBA now have received recommendations from F. Ball for 15 products lines.

They also have a neat search function on their website that helps track down the data also. You can see the COBA Flooring products that feature in the 2016 guide here. Simply click on the product name to see what has been recommended by the experts.

The RAG (Recommended Adhesives Guide) now has an app available on both the App Store and Google Play. If you prefer the old school method you can even download the PDF.

What they say “Established in 1886, the company’s market leading products are tried and trusted across the contract flooring industry where F. What conditions need to be considered when using adhesive?

Each site would have its unique conditions that play a role in which adhesive would be best for the specific site. Here are some of the factors that you need to look at to choose the correct adhesive:

  • Weather
  • Traffic Volumes
  • Traffic Type
  • Sunlight
  • Installation surface

Screed Preparation

Additional preparation might be needed to ensure that the area is ready for the specific adhesive needed for the product in question. Check out our screed preparation guide for more information.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Surfaces need to be properly cleaned before and during the respective installation process.  Failure to do this can result in the product failing in the early stages already.

Once the product has been installed, ensure that the area is cleaned from any left-over glue, debris and any other rubbish that might be laying around.
