Railway Platforms

GRP for Railway Platforms

Railway platforms can be dangerous places especially in peak times when passengers are rushing for trains. High levels of pedestrian footfall also mean a higher than average risk of accident. Also, railway platforms are frequently accessed by stairs and this creates an additional hazard. Network Rail statistics for April 2011- March 2012 reveal that there were almost 1,500 incidents of people slipping at railway stations.

Safety underfoot can be enhanced through the installation of COBAGRiP® anti-slip flooring and stair treads/stair nosing. Its ‘gritted’ top surface delivers effective underfoot grip for most footwear even in wet or icy conditions. The fact that COBAGRiP® is so durable makes it ideal for busy pedestrian areas and while the gritted surface provides slip-resistance, it doesn’t inhibit wheeled luggage or trolleys.

High visibility COBAGRiP® stair nosing and stair treads are DDA compliant. They are available with bright yellow or white borders for the visually impaired.

Being easy to fit also means that COBAGRiP® can be swiftly installed causing minimum disruption. Many railway stations can do this overnight without affecting any passengers.
