Matting to Take the Strain out of Standing

By on May 12, 2011

Did you know that anti-fatigue mats can significantly increase comfort to operatives who stand for prolonged periods of time?

A scientific study commissioned by COBA and conducted by Loughborough University, compared standing on a concrete floor with standing on anti-fatigue matting.  The evaluation involving 14 participants compared thermal comfort and fatigue using both objective and subjective measures.

The subjective results showed statistically significant benefits to users of anti-fatigue matting when compared to standing on a concrete floor, especially to the lower and upper legs and lower back areas.

It is fact that regularly standing on hard surfaces can lead to much more serious health conditions, such as back pain, varicose veins and circulatory problems.  Anti-fatigue mats help to promote regular movement as the feet adapt to the cushioned surface, which although subtle, is effective in promoting healthy blood flow, helping oxygen reach the heart.

If you would like to learn more about anti-fatigue matting and industrial matting in general, then why not visit Safety and Health Expo next week at the NEC, Birmingham (17-19  May) where COBA will have some of its most popular rubber matting and anti-fatigue matting lines on display.
