Nitrile rubber is a synthetic rubber that has excellent resistance to petroleum, mineral and vegetable oils and other chemicals. Its compositions consists of several butadiene monomers, and its entire makeup can vary according to the amount of acrylonitrile in the mixture and the kind of polymerization process it undergoes. Nitrile has excellent heat resistance and good cold resistance. Its main uses are found in the production of disposable non-latex gloves for the medical and research industries and hoses that handle oil and fuel in the automotive and aeronautical industries.
Having good abrasion resistance and tensile strength, nitrile rubber is used to produce mechanical rubber parts such as specialty and hard coat rollers for the graphic arts, pulp and paper and textile industries; and custom manufactured parts that include transmission seals, carburetor seals, hydraulic pump seals, and seal o-rings.
There are many varieties of nitrile gloves. Textured nitrile is used for ESD-safe rubber gloves. The gloves are powder-free, their puncture resistance is greater than natural rubber and they have little elastometric stress resulting in less hand fatigue. ESD white nitrile gloves are RoHS compliant and used for clean-room purposes. These gloves have excellent tactile sensitivity and are ANSI ESD S11.11-1993 compliant.
